Actor-politician Rajinikanth’s wife Latha Rajinikanth has been asked to face trial in a case of fraud after she failed to pay dues to the tune of Rs. 6.20 crore to advertising firm Ad Bureau. The Supreme Court said investigations will be held in the case against her and she will be put on trial after a chargesheet has been filed.
The dispute started in 2014 over the movie “Kochadaiiyaan”, that started Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone, which was directed by Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya.
The dispute started in 2014 over a movie by Rajinikanth — “Kochadaiyan” directed by their daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth. A loan of Rs 10 crore was taken for the post-production work for the film.
The firm later went to court, alleging that an amount of Rs 6.2 crore was still pending.
The Karnataka High Court, however, cancelled legal proceedings against Latha Rajnikanth, saying the case was not of fraud but breach of agreement. The Supreme Court has set aside that order, saying the High Court should not have cancelled the complaint at the initial stage.
In February, the top court ordered that the balance payment be made within three months. Latha Rajanikanth, one of the directors of the entertainment company Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd, which had taken the loan, promised that the dues will be cleared.
The superstar’s wife was pulled up by the Supreme Court last week for failing to honour the agreement. Asking why the payment wasn’t made, the court said, “If you don’t pay, then be ready to face trial.”
